The Sofia City Hall is going to request to become the manager of the Sofia Central Park known as Borisova Gradina.

The news was reported by the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, who visited Monday another one of the capital's parks – Geo Milev, to check on renovations there.

According to Fandakova, the transfer of the management will allow the City Hall to make more investments in the maintenance of the park, which is currently State property, and additional expenses will be paid for from revenues from establishments there, which will also bring increased revenues for the municipality.

The Mayor stressed that these taxes remain uncollected at the moment, adding with the property transfer a plan for movable establishments will be prepared and new competitions announced.

Fandakova reiterated her pledge to install CCTVs and better lighting in Borisova Gradina and increase police presence.

A total of 31 security cameras will be installed in 7 Sofia districts while the funds for park maintenance have been upped by BGN 2 M.

The park's overhaul comes in the heels of two recent cases in which the dead bodies of two women have been found in the park.

The body of 28-year-old Bulgarian Yana Krasteva was discovered on July 10. Forensic experts have come to the conclusion that the young woman was beaten and strangled.

A week later, late Friday evening, July 15, police discovered in the Perlovska River in the Borisova Gradina the body of another woman. The cause of death and her identity remain unknown.
