Bulgaria Brings 6 Hopefuls to 2011 World Swimming Championship in Shanghai

A record number of 2220 athletes from 181 countries will compete in 2011 World Swimming Championship in Shanghai.

This year's event, scheduled for July 16–31, 2011, will feature the 5 aquatics disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, open water, and synchronized swimming.

The Championship is run by F?d?ration Internationale de Natation (FINA), and the swimming events are contested in a 50 m, or "long course", pool.

The swimming world's biggest non-Olympic event will be aired on 65 accredited TV networks.

Bulgaria will be represented by three swimmers, Ekaterina Avramova, Nina Rangelova and Ventsislav Aydarski.

Open water world champion Petar Stoychev will compete in the 10 km event and fight for a quota place for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Kalina Yordanova and Iglika Goleminova, Bulgaria's best synchronized swimming duet, will also take part in the championship.
