The former deputy head of Bulgaria's Financial Supervision Commission Bisser Petkov stands very high chances to be elected the next chair of the country's Social Security Institute (NOI), according to reports.

"Indeed, the ruling GERB party proposed that I take over the job and I accepted. I am not sure however to how many candidates they have extended their invitation," Petkov said, when approached by Dnevnik daily.

"I will accept an eventual appointment with a sense of responsibility," he added.

As under local legislation the head of Bulgaria's Social Security Institute must be approved by parliament, the nomination is expected to be put to the vote on Wednesday, according to unconfirmed reports.

The former head of Bulgaria's Social Security Institute (NOI) Hristina Mitreva resigned in the middle of May under pressure and despite her firm determination to remain at the post.

Even though Mitreva's dismissal was seen by some as another example of Prime Minister Borisov's washout staff policy, which has very often had dire consequences, she herself has blamed political pressure and refusal to run political errands for her dismissal.
