Former Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan is set to play as a trialist for Hibs this afternoon as he bids to win a move to the SPL club.

The Republic of Ireland striker is seeking a fresh start after his move to Bulgarian outfit CSKA Sofia on a three-year deal last August turned sour amidst changes in management and a lack of game time.

The 22-year-old is available for an initial loan switch and has already had trials with MLS pair Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers.

However, the former Motherwell, Plymouth Argyle and St Johnstone loan marksman will now try and convince the Hibs management team he is worthy of being added to the summer arrivals of Garry O'Connor, Ivan Sproule and Sean O'Hanlon.

Sheridan is now likely to be given time to impress during this afternoon's trip to face John Robertson's East Fife at Bayview Stadium as the capital side press on with their build-up to the new season amidst continuing speculation over the future of manager Colin Calderwood.

Sheridan said: "I'm allowed to play in the game and I'm available to play but I don't know how many minutes I might get.

"Ultimately it will be in games that I will be judged so it will be good to get that chance and hopefully I can impress.

"It's not really working out at the moment in Bulgaria and I'm looking for alternatives. I haven't set my mind on coming back to the UK but I'm seeing what options I have.

"There were a lot of things happening in Bulgaria. There were changes in the manager and I've had to get used to the way of life and so on.

"I'm going to be training with the club for seven or eight days and I'm delighted to get the chance to come to a big club like Hibs.

"Hopefully I can impress and see where that takes us."

Meanwhile, Calderwood was last night hopeful of giving the Hibs support their first glimpse of new recruit Sean O'Hanlon.

The former Everton, Swindon Town and MK Dons defender scored in a bounce game against Morton shortly after his arrival but was left out of both of the club's public friendlies so far, against Berwick Rangers and Livingston.

The 28-year-old has been complaining of a 'tightness' in his buttock and was left out this week as a precaution.

Calderwood, who last night appeared set to take charge of Hibs again in Methil, despite declaring his interest earlier this week in seeing a move to either Nottingham Forest or Birmingham City progress, said: "Sean could have played on Tuesday night had it been a competitive match and I'm hopeful he'll play (on Saturday].

"But we won't rush him. We've got a big week of training next week when they will do a lot of work and I don't want too many missing out on that."
