Investigator Hristo Stanchev, who was arrested in 2004 while receiving a bribe in marked money bills, was fined with BGN 3000 by Bulgaria's Supreme Court of Cassation Thursday.
Stanchev was confirmed guilty of bribe-taking and the verdict cannot be appealed.
At the same time, Supreme Court of Cassation also fined lawyer Georgi Angelov with BGN 1000 for aiding and abetting bribery.
The tip-off was given by businessman Stoyan Yanchev, who complained of being blackmailed by Stanchev and Angelov.
In Yanev's words, he had been asked to hand in EUR 15 000 to end proceedings against him for document forgery.
In 2009, the Sofia City Court handed Hristo Stanchev a two-year suspended prison sentence with a probation period of five years, while lawyer Georgi Angelov was fined with BGN 5000.
