Prime Ministers Boyko Borisov and Benjamin Netanyahu have demonstrated deep personal sympathies for one another during their meeting in Sofia, on top of stressing intentions for ever closer cooperation between Bulgaria and Israel.

Borisov and Netanyahu spoke at a joint news conference in Sofia Thursday, right after the governments of Bulgaria and Israel held an unprecedented joint sitting.

"Boyko Borisov and I met four years ago in a hotel in Tel Aviv, and we instantly had the right chemistry. We were both in opposition in our countries back then, and we promised each other to meet again when we begin to govern. Today we have kept this promise," Israel's PM declared. (Borisov and Netanyahu also met as Prime Ministers in January 2010 in Israel – editor's note.)

"A few years ago when I was still a mayor and Bibi Netanyahu was in opposition, we met in Tel Aviv, and our cooperation began. It is a great pleasure for me to welcome the Prime Minister of Israel and his Cabinet and to hold this joint sitting with them," Borisov stated in turn.

Borisov even mentioned a joke made up by Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov – that Israel and Bulgaria are governed by two "Bibis" - referring to the nickname of Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu and his own initials BB (for Boyko Borisov).

"As the Foreign Minister likes to joke, both they [Israel] and we [Bulgaria] have one "Bibi". And the two Bibis work together, you know," Borisov said with a smile, causing a hearty laugh among the audience.
