Petar Petrov, 46, who waved a gun at the passengers of a bus traveling from Sunny Beach to Burgas, will be charged with hooliganism instead of bus hijacking.

According to the Prosecutor's Office in the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Burgas, the investigating authorities have collected enough evidence to press hooliganism charges, not bus hijacking.

The accident happened Monday night, when P. P pulled out a gun and told the driver and his fellow passengers that they must obey his orders.

However, 26-year-old Vanya Yankova managed to call 112 and the Burgas police forces stopped the bus upon its entry into the city.

Petrov was detained for 24 hours, tested for alcohol and drugs and subsequently released due to the alleged light degree of his offense.

The man has a prior criminal record but the rehabilitation period has expired.

According to the prosecution authorities, if sufficient evidence is collected for other punishable activities during the incident, the charges may be reworded.

If he is charged with hooliganism, Petar Petrov will face up to 5 years in prison.

The case is expected to reach the courtroom in a week.
