Arson has not been ruled out as a possible reason for the death of Marchelo Dokovski, head of Sofia municipal company in charge of parking lots, Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov confirmed.

Dokovski's life was claimed by fire late on Thursday as he saved his son in his own appartment.

"Let's leave our colleagues carry out an absolute thorough investigation. A lot of people will be interrogated during the investigation," Tsvetanov said Sunday, according to Dnes.news.bg. He pointed out that the police are working on the case in close cooperation with the Sofia municipality.

Tsvetanov deemed it possible that security guards may be assigned to safeguard Dokovski's family, though he stated such measure is not necessary yet.

Dokovski's 15-year-old son was alone at the apartment when the fire broke out at about 11 pm on Thursday. He first called the police and then his father too.

The firefighters headed to the site just as the boy's parents arrived. The father rushed into the flat to rescue his son. When the firefighters followed him minutes later, they found his lifeless body.

Despite the doctors' efforts to bring him back to consciousness, the man died.

Dokovski has been lately receiving text messages from an unknown number, which warned him his life and that of his son are in danger, according to media reports.
