Bulgarian food safety authorities have found 18 kg of horse meat at the Golden Sands sea resort during a routine check.

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has casually announced that the meat was without the necessary documents proving its origin, without commenting the fact that it came from horses.

Experts from the agency have been carrying out routine inspections in the country's Black Sea resorts' stores and tourist facilities, its official website announces. The main violations include carelessly stored food and lack of proper documentation at some places.

The food safety authorities have seized a total of 276 kg of suspicious food during the inspections they did between June 20 and June 24. Violations have been registered in 37 of the total of 398 places inspected.
