The Bulgarian Army has received 30 more trucks under its supply contract with Daimler-Chrysler at a special ceremony in Sofia.

The 30 "Zetros" 2733A /6х6/ trucks with all-terrain capabilities are designed to transport army personnel and supplies, and are under Bulgaria's third contract under an arms supply package with Daimler-Chrysler.

The Zetros trucks were inaugurated by Bulgarian Defense Minister Anyu Angelov and Germany's Ambassador to Bulgaria Matthias Hoepfner.

His Excellency Ambassador Hoepfner pointed out that the German Army, the Bundeswehr, uses the same vehicles, and that the Bulgarian Army is the second largest client of Daimler-Chrysler for this type of trucks after Germany's.

As a result of its contracts with Daimler-Chrysler, Bulgaria's Defense Ministry already has 335 vehicles, including armored vehicles, lighter vehicles, trucks, and buses, Gen. Angelov said.

He reminded that in 2010 his team managed to renegotiate the third supply contract with Daimler-Chrysler at a time when the Bulgarian Defense Ministry was especially stranded in terms of its budget, saving several million euros.

The deal with Daimler-Chrysler was sealed in 2003 by former Defense Minister Nikolay Svinarov. It provided for equipping the Bulgarian Army with new transport vehicles, with specific agreements for each year. Thus, in 2009, Bulgaria received 155 transport vehicles under one of the contracts with Daimler-Chrysler for which it owed the total sum of BGN 22.3 M.
