The Bulgarian pharmacists are organizing Saturday a large-scale protest rally against the pending amendments in the Medications Act.

The protest will begin at 4:30 pm in front of the National Palace of Culture in downtown Sofia. About 1 000 are expected to attend.

The pharmacists are against new texts in the Act, which will allow for people without pharmaceutical degrees to sell over-the-counter items.

"We have stated our reasons too many times. We oppose the most legislation in the sector aimed only at serving the interests of small private circles. We must have a concept for national medication policy, which should be debated by everyone – patient organizations, experts, the executive and legislative power," the Chair of the Bulgarian Pharmacists' Union, Miroslav Nenchev, told Darik radio.
