The Prosecutor's Office in the southern Bulgarian city of Blagoevgrad is closed Thursday afternoon after receiving an anonymous call about a bomb threat.

Bomb experts are searching the building with heavy police presence. The authorities have been unable to trace the call.

The bomb alert arrived at the time a briefing was scheduled to begin at the Prosecutor's Office related to an overnight shooting in the nearby town of Sandanski.

The incident occurred after a traffic policeman stopped a car in front of the police precinct building Wednesday evening. When the policeman issued a citation, the driver became irritated and took out a handgun, wounding the officer on duty. A colleague came out of the building, neutralized the gunman and shot him in the stomach.

The two injured people have been listed in the local hospital, underwent surgery, and their lives are out of danger.

The driver is identified as Ivan Changov AKA Vancho Terry from the town of Petrich, where he is known for his loansharking activities. He is facing up to 20 years behind bars.

The Prosecutor's Office in Blagoevgrad has been evacuated and the briefing moved to the building of the Regional Police Directorate in the city.
