How to Smoke Out an Embattled Supreme Judicial Council

If you are a Bulgarian citizen who feels entitled to a democratic, three-pillar system of government,

If you have been growing increasingly distrustful of one particular branch, the judiciary, over the past few years,

If you have had enough of the sagas with the alleged court lobbyist Krasimir Georgiev, aka Krasio the Black, the "needy" host of judges involved in property scandals and the spate of reportedly crony appointments,

If you do not want to face double standards, deliberately delayed trials, low-skilled yet well-connected magistrates,

Here's what you can do:

You can send a short text message via bivol.bg to Bulgarian Justice Minister Margarita Popova or the Supreme Judicial Council (VSS), asking the deeply discredited body to resign in the name of Bulgaria's judicial system;

You can send an e-mail through the website of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, politely asking the Right Honorable VSS members to step down;

You can pitch a protest tent in front of the Sofia Court House, following the example of a handful of impatient Bulgarians. Don't forget to bring protest posters and a pen to sign a protest petition in this case!

If all of the above appears too streetwise, you can still ask presidential candidate Meglena Kuneva if this is what she means by "civilian control".

Or, you can stay home, watch TV and hope the long arm of the law never taps you on the shoulder.
