The operation took place in the luxurious Albena resort near Varna.

Terrorists from the former Soviet republics wanted to contaminate the Black Sea with radioactive Cesium from the Bulgarian seaside, according to Vladimir Manolov, former head of the country's National Protection Service (NSS).

However, the Bulgarian services prevented the environmental catastrophe, he said, as cited by Darik radio. The operation took place in the luxurious Albena resort near Varna.

"They had six ampules of Cesium, with which they intended to contaminate the Bulgarian seaside and trigger an environmental catastrophe. So, we decided to run an undercover operation, in which I participates as a buyer of the ampules. I was a rich Albanian who wanted to buy them," Manolov said, sharing how he grew a beard and wore lots of rings especially for the operation.

The Bulgarians made a considerable progress on the case, but had problem with the country's special forces, who arrested them as well as the terrorists.

"The Bulgarian special forces beat you quite heavily when they know you are with the bad guys," he admitted.
