The real cause of the horrific bus crash on the Trakia highway will become clear in two weeks' time, according to the Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office.

The traffic accident, which took place in the small hours of June 15, claimed eight lives and left 18 injured.

The condition of 46-year old Albena Uzunova, one of the victims of the crash, remains critical. She has undergone surgery carried out by a team of reanimators, neurosurgeons and specialists in reconstructive and plastic surgery.

The doctors have managed to fortify the foundations of her skull and Ivan Traykov, Director of the Burn Clinic, has carried out a complex head skin plastic operation.

According to Chavdar Stefanov, head of the Clinic for Anesthesiology, Reanimation and Intensive Care at the Plovdiv hospital, Uzunova's life remains in danger, as she battles skull traumas and lung and abdominal injuries.

The relatives of the German citizen who died in the crash have not yet claimed the body from the Forensic Pathology unit of the hospital.

The information that a German woman has died in the crash was not revealed to the public until Monday, when the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency cited the country's Prosecutor's Office.

However, the German Embassy in Bulgaria was informed on Friday.

The Prosecutor's Office has explained the delay of their announcement with the fact that it was initially reported that Rumyana Rodriguez was among the victims, which prompted additional investigation. Rodriguez is confirmed as not being among the victims.
