Vasko Risteski, a 38 year-old Macedonian truck driver, who saved five Bulgarians injured in a hellish car crash Wednesday, will be awarded a Bulgarian citizenship.

A bus, travelling from the capital Sofia to the Black Sea city of Burgas overturned on Trakiya highway, near the second largest city of Plovdiv, in the early hours Wednesday, killing 8 and injuring 20, two of whom are in critical condition.

Risteski happened to drive by and reacted immediately, helping five people to escape the demolished vehicle. Speaking before Bulgarian media, the Macedonian revealed he has been frequently traveling to the country and has been waiting for Bulgarian citizenship for three years now.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov have now vowed to help Risteski receive a Bulgarian passport as soon as possible.

The Macedonian was also awarded with a free summer vacation stay for him and his family in Burgas, courtesy of the city's Mayor.
