The owner of the company, operating the bus, which crashed and claimed the lives of eight Bulgarians early on Wednesday, has offered his apologies to the families of the victims.

"I'm sorry for this terrible tragedy. I would like to apologize for not appearing in public with a statement on this occasion immediately after the tragic event. As a person directly responsible I feel very upset and still am not able to face the media," reads the letter signed by Enturtrans owner, Eniz Chengel, who holds double citizenship – Bulgarian and Turkish.

He declares his readiness to personally assist all institutions, state and municipal authorities in investigating the tragic accident.

The statement came hours after the company, which leased the ill-fated bus, was stripped of license to operate as a carrier.

An Enturtrans bus, travelling from the capital Sofia to the Black Sea city of Burgas overturned on Trakiya highway, near the second largest city of Plovdiv, in the wee hours Wednesday, killing 8 and injuring 20, two of whom are in critical condition.

Thursday was declared a Day of Mourning in Bulgaria for the victims of the crash.
