Prominent Bulgarian Patriot, Writer Petar Konstantinov Dies at 82

Prominent Bulgarian writer, patriot and public figure, prof. Petar Konstantinov, founder of the Mati Bulgaria Association, died Tuesday, relatives inform.
The mass is scheduled for June 17 at 10 am at the Sofia Sveta Nedelya Church while the funeral will take place at 1:30 pm at the Central Sofia Cemetery.
In the spring, Konstantinov was listed in critical condition at the Elmhurst hospital in New York City with acute respiratory distress syndrome and was placed on a respirator. A month later, a team of Bulgarian doctors traveled to NYC to help bring the Professor back home.
Konstantinov, who was born on August 1, 1928, has authored more than 30 books - novels, stories, short stories collections and publicism, most with 3,4 and 5 editions. He has written over 200 scientific studies in the areas of medicine, arts, economics and history, and over 2 000 articles in periodicals.
The Professor is one of the founders and Chair of Mati Bulgaria – the first non-party organization after the fall of the Communist regime in 1989, which is known for active work in the country and abroad, focused an revival, preservation and dissemination of the Bulgarian national spirit, traditions and historical memory.
