Popular French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have denied their previously reported intersest in Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, Bulgarian pundits say.
PSG is now interested in signing either Inter star Samuel Eto'o or Atletico Madrid's prolific forward Diego Forlan instead, the Bulgarian Darik radio reported on Monday.
Since Qatari businessmen bought 70% of the PSG's assets, the French club has been able to bid for the world's best players, which has led media analysts compare them to the British Manchester City and other squads suddenly joining the European football elite due to their vastly increased financial resources.
The French club was reportedly preparing a GBP 12 M offer for the Bulgarian, whose future at Old Trafford has been under doubt recently, according to the Daily Mail.
Berbatov was the Premier League's joint top scorer last season, but the rise to prominence of Javier Hernandez saw him knocked down the Red Devils' pecking order.
According to media reports, Manchester United are willing to let Berbatov go, should they receive a GBP 15 M bid. In 2008, the legendary club signed him from Tottenham in a record over GBP 30 M transfer deal.
