The Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, is the favorite for the same post in the upcoming local elections, according to the latest survey of the Sova Harris polling agency.

About 31% of all Sofia residents over the age of 18 support Fandakova's potential bid for the post.

The survey was conducted between June 2 and 6, among 600 people.

The nomination of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, Georgi Kadiev, would receive about 14% of the vote.

The winner in the mayoral elections in the capital will be announced after a second round and he or she will be from the ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party, according to the poll's results.

BSP and the right-wing Blue Coalition between Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) and Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) have equal chance to reach second round with the UDF nomination, Vladimir Kisiov having higher standings than Proshko Proshkov from DSB. Kisiov would also give the right-wing more chance to reach second round.

The most important problems of the Sofia municipality are crime (39%), public transportation (30%), and road infrastructure (30%), according to respondents.

Other problems include health care, stray dogs, corruption and education.

47% of those polled believe the current Sofia administration has done a lot during its term to improve the capital, but add there is still plenty to work on.

23% say nothing significant has happened to advance the municipality.
