European Snooker Championship Kicks Off in Sofia

The 2011 European Snooker Championship started Tuesday at the Dedeman Princess hotel in Bulgaria's capital Sofia.

The first strike of the high-profile event was given by Bulgarian Minister of Sport Svilen Neykov.

The championship will last through June 17 and will feature competitions in three divisions – men, women and veterans, totaling 120 competitors from 35 countries.

Four-time world champion John Higgins will guest at the event June 16 to hold demonstration games against Bulgarian players.
