Reports that embattled President Ali Abdullah Saleh has left Yemen have been denied were denied by officials in the country Saturday.

Earlier, sources cited by the BBC claimed Saleh had flown to Saudi Arabia after he was injured in an attack on his compound in Sanaa Friday. Deputy Information Minister, Abduh al-Janadi, as well as other officials, however, denied the information.

The report came after the Yemeni state news agency said that five senior officials who were also wounded had been flown there.

The Friday attack came amid violent demonstrations and clashes, lasting for over a week now, between the government and armed tribes. Seven people were killed. Saleh received treatment in a military hospital, after at least two shells hit a mosque in the presidential compound. The extent of his injuries is unclear, although various reports say he received scratches, or was hit by shrapnel in the head or neck, BBC writes Saturday.
