Bulgaria's Bansko ski resort has been selected by the International Ski Federation to organize alpine skiing World Cup starts for both men and women during the 2011/2012 season.

The Bulgarian resort has been selected to host two starts each for both men and ladies. Bansko was chosen to replace the men's starts originally scheduled to take place in Japan on February 18 and 19 2012, but canceled due to the recent earthquake and tsunami disaster in the Asian country.

During the next season, Bansko will also host the Women World Cup Slalom and Super Giant Slalom Race on February 25 and 26.

Only four other alpine skiing hosts have the privilege to be included in the calendar for both men and women for the upcoming World Cup - French Val d'Isere, Canadian Lake Louise, German Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Russian Sochi, where the next Winter Olympics will take place.

Bansko's inclusion is a "huge success", Tseko Minev, head of the Bulgarian Ski Federation, commented, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.
