Bulgaria's Executive Agency for Transplantations has Dr. Silvi Kirilov as its new Director, the Health Ministry's press center informs Thursday.

Kirilov is to succeed Dr. Teodora Dzhaleva, whose name was tangled in a number of scandals in the last months such as illegal export of organs.

The Health Ministry, however, has denied the reshuffle is the result of the scandals and stated as grounds for Dzhaleva's replacement "the opportunity to have a better management."

In the beginning of the year, the Association of Patients with Kidney Ailments demanded the resignations of Dzhaleva, and of Sofiya Mutafchiyska – Director of the Fund for Transplantations Abroad, which was later closed by the government.

Patient organizations have further accused Dzhaleva of attempting to illegally oust the Kidney Association's Chair from the company where he is employed.

The new Director of the Agency for Transplantations, Dr. Silvi Kirilov graduated from the Medical Academy in Sofia in 1974, and later (1981) specialized in urology.

He has worked as a general practitioner at the hospital in the northwestern city of Montana, and since 1991 as assistant in the Urology Department at the Aleksandrovska Hospital in the capital Sofia. He became main administrative assistant of the same department in 1997.

Since 2002, Kirilov has held several high-ranking management positions at the hospital.
