Sofia City Hall Starts Construction of New Sports Facility

The Sofia City Hall is making plans to have, for the first time in many years, a brand new park in the Vazrazhdane (Revival) district.

The park, on 23 decares, will also boast a full sports complex, Mayor, Iordanka Fandakova, announced at a press conference to present projects for new sports facilities in the city.

The new park will have five fields – a large one - 36x66 meters, and four smaller ones – 20x40 meters, two tennis courts, a field for beach football and volleyball, a field for open air fitness, Ping-Pong tables, and a children play area.

The construction of the sports facilities for the entire family will start at the end of the year.

Fandakova further reported that in 2008-2011, 56 sports grounds have been built in various districts, the upcoming completion of the "Skate Park" in Studentski Grad (College Town), the building of 7 km of bike lanes in Mladost, and a number of repairs of school gyms and of pools.

The Mayor announced that in addition to sports, the City Hall will focus on finishing the construction of several churches and temples in and around Sofia with slated amount of BGN 250 000.
