More than 30 people, including foreigners, were arrested in Moscow Saturday during the attempt to hold a gay pride parade.

This was the sixth consecutive time a gay pride parade was attempted in Moscow – since 2006, and was broken up because of violence, international media reported.

The participants in Saturday's gay parade, which had not received permission by the authorities, as in any other past attempt of the activists, intended to lay flowers at the Monument of the Unknown Warrior but were assaulted by ultra-Orthodox Christian groups and dispersed by the police.

Two American activists were also arrested; they said they would appeal to the Council of Europe to dispossess Russia of voting rights within the organization over the violence against homosexuals.
