Bulgaria is an "European champion" in fiscal stability, Regional Development Minister Rosen Plevneliev told the European Forum Wachau, an investment event in Austria.

Plevneliev, a technocrat from the construction business whose recent boost popularity has led him to surpass Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, presented Bulgaria at the European Forum Wachau in Goettweig, Austria.

By drawing on comparisons with the situations of Greece, Ireland, and Portugal, Plevneliev underscored the fact that Bulgaria has emerged as a stability champion, and stressed the importance of fiscal stability as the most important factor for investment and growth, as cited by the Regional Development Ministry.

The Bulgarian minister emphasized further the plans that Bulgaria has for infrastructure projects by 2013 – especially for the construction of highways, railways, water purification plants, among others, as a means of linking local potential to the global economy.

The topic of the European Forum Wachau, which took place in Austria on May 21, 2011, was "Regional Politics – World Politics: Competitive Regions in a Globalized World". EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, Austrian Johannes Hahn, also participated in the forum.

Plevneliev has pointed to the EU Danube Region Strategy as an example of how 14 European states can work efficiently on a joint projects, and thanked Austria for its commitment for the development of the Danube region.
