8 Libyan Warships Destroyed by NATO

Eight of Muammar Gaddafi's warships were destroyed in the early hours of Friday by NATO jets, according to an alliance spokesperson.

The ships were targeted in Tripoli, Al-Khums and Sirte after it became obvious that Gadhafi's forces were increasingly using naval vessels to launch attacks on civilians, Mike Bracken, NATO's military spokesman, said, as cited by CNN.

"NATO had no choice but to take decisive action to protect the civilian population of Libya and NATO forces at sea. All the vessels targeted last night were naval warships with no civilian utility,''another NATO spokesman, Rear-Admiral Russell Harding, said in a statement, as cited by the Sidney Morning Herald.
