A home made bomb was discovered in a bus in Ireland, ahead of the historic visit of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II Tuesday.

Security measures in Ireland are extremely tight in what is set to be a tense visit on the part of the British monarch.

Monday London authorities received a bomb threat from an Irish organization protesting the visit, which is the first visit of a British monarch in a free and independent Ireland ever.

The last visit by a British monarch on the island was the one by King George V in 1911, a more than a decade before Ireland effectively became independent in 1922-3.

Tuesday's bomb was uncovered in a town some 25 km away from Dublin and safely disposed of by authorities.

Irish police have been alerted by another signal for a suspicious package at a railway station in Dublin, which however turned to be a prank.

Elizabeth II is set to arrive in Dublin around 11.00 GMT and to stay for four days in Ireland.
