About 400 taxi cabs in the Bulgarian capital Sofia are going to be forced to lower their prices after the City Hall introduces a price cap.

The information was reported Thursday by the Bulgarian daily Standard, citing the City Hall.

The expensive cabs now have prices anywhere between BGN 1.5 to BGN 8 per kilometer while the plans are to have a price cap of BGN 1.3 during the day and BGN 1.6 at night.

The City Hall further informs that part of downtown is going to be closed for a year and a half over construction activities with the owner of the private property paying BGN 600 000 to 700 000 to compensate the municipality for losses incurred from eliminating some "blue zone" parking spots.

The "Deacon Ignatiy" street between "Tsar Osvoboditel" boulevard and "Aksakov" street will be closed for traffic beginning September, 2011.
