Bulgarian Defense Minister Anyu Angelov is concerned Al Qaeda or its affiliates will seek to avenge the death of Osama bin Laden even though the Bulgarian rangers in Afghanistan reported no intensive activity by the Taliban.

Angelov video-conferenced Thrusday with the commanders of the Bulgarian military contingents stationed abroad.

The Bulgarian troops stationed in Afghanistan's Kabul and Kandahar, about 600 in total, within the NATO-led ISAF, have not noticed any substantial change in the behavior of the Taliban after the US hunted down Osama bin Laden on Sunday. However, their alert level remains high.

Defense Minister Angelov said the Bulgarian intelligence and security forces have not detected any preparations for terrorist attacks in Bulgaria; he did stress, however, that terrorist attacks are the hardest thing to predict.

In his words, the Bulgarian security forces just need to be carrying out their tasks as usual, and no extra-ordinary measures are needed.

"The cutting off of Al Qaeda's head is a success but only a partial one. The organization remains in existence, and there will be another head to lead it. Regarding the global situation I believe that retaliation on part of Al Qaeda and its affiliates such as the Taliban in Afghanistan are very likely to to carry out a retaliation for the killing of Osama bin Laden," Gen. Angelov said pointing out that Al Qaeda's subdivisions have a high degree of operational independence.
