Bulgaria Jails UK Citizen for Child Molestation

A 53-year-old British citizen has been jailed for fifteen years, initially at a maximum-security prison, for the molestation of a 6-year-old girl in the village of Novo Gradishte, in Bulgaria's Strazhitsa municpality.

On Tuesday Veliko Tarnovo District Court found Colin Tucker guilty of the heavy crime, which occurred in the middle of December in 2009.

Tucker will also have to pay BGN 60 000 for non-material damages to the family of the child.

On the day of the crime Tucker, who is a shepherd in the village of Novo Gradishte, was round at the child's house where her grandmother offered him wine and coffee, after which they were sent to the local shop. When they failed to return relatives and the police searched for them and found them at Tucker's house.

A year ago, thieves entered Tucker's house, broke into his safe and stole cash and personal documents. Tucker has remained without identity documents since then.

The sentence is subject to appeal at the Appellate Court within fifteeen days.
