Bulgarian Police Shoot Down Car Thief

A suspected car stealer has been shot dead by Bulgarian police in a shootout overnight around Pazardzhik.

The incident had happened within a special police operation codenamed "The Hyenas" targeting an organized network for car theft.

During the operation the police uncovered two missing luxury BMW X5 with Romanian license plates.

The operation was carried out in the areas of Veliko Tarnovo, Pazardzhik and Plovdiv.

Police pursued suspected cars and tried to intercept them. The shootout occured when the suspects chose to disobey police orders and did not stop.

One police officer has been wounded.

The information about the casualties has not been confirmed by the Ministry of Interior, but is circulated by all major Bulgarian media.
