The White House has issued an official congratulation to Prince William and Catherine Middleton on the occasion of their wedding.

"We congratulate Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, on their wedding today and wish them a lifetime of happiness together. The United States has no closer friend in the world than the United Kingdom. On this occasion, the American people extend heartfelt congratulations to the peoples of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth and share in their hopes for a bright future for the Royal couple," a statement on the official White House internet page reads.

The couple, now Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, got married Friday in a splendid ceremony that has been called the "wedding of the century," watched by 2 000 guests and billions of people across the globe.

Former Bulgarian King, Simeon Saxe-Coburg and his wife Margarita were among the royal guests. Heads of State and country leaders were not invited because the Prince is not yet official heir of the throne.

Since the announcement of William and Catherine's engagement, the wedding, the family of the bride, her gown, even the ghost of William's mother, Princess Diana, who died tragically in a car crash, have been making  headlines across the globe.
