The bride and groom in Friday's Royal wedding have been conferred by the British Queen with their new titles of William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge.
William was also named the earl of Strathearn and baron Carrickfergus. Kate Middleton will take those titles as well, becoming countess of Strathearn and baroness Carrickfergus. Strathearn ties William and Middleton to Scotland, where the pair met and fell in love. Baron Carrickfergus is a little-used title which refers to one of the oldest towns in Northern Ireland
The Royal couple will not take the titles of Prince and Princess until the current Prince of Wales becomes King.
Hundreds of millions of viewers are anxiously anticipating the culmination of the glamorous wedding, which already began. The world's media have deployed some 8 000 staff in London for the royal wedding, and about 5 000 police officers will be on its streets, of whom 110 on horseback.
