Jehovah's Witnesses Are Sect!

Letter-writer "Joel" criticized Novinite.com for calling the Jehovah's Witnesses a sect.

Merriam-Webster's dictionary provides several definitions of the word "sect." Among the definitions are "a religious denomination" and "a group adhering to a distinctive doctrine or a leader."

Are Jehovah's Witnesses a religious denomination? Yes.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses a group adhering to a distinctive doctrine? Yes.

Those are two separate grounds upon which the Jehovah's Witnesses fit a definition of "sect." Obviously, dictionaries are not among the literature that they annoyingly deliver to people's doors.

Joel then cites modern medicine as an authority for using "blood expanders" and "cell savers" as an alternative to blood transfusions. However, it is common knowledge that modern medicine also regularly uses blood transfusions; educated doctors would not use it if they thought it was bad for the patient and something else would work better.

If Joel is to cite modern medicine as an authority for his argument, he is a hypocrite if he does not also approve of blood transfusions, which are favoured by the practitioners of modern medicine.
