Bulgaria suffers from a chronically malfunctioning media world which is servicing unclear political and economic interests, according to political analyst Tsvetozar Tomov.

Speaking in an interview for BGNES, Tomov commented that in Bulgaria the economic conditions for the existence of free media are absent.

"The unclarity on economic dependencies is growing, as the manipulative techniques get enhanced," said the analyst, adding "The Bulgarian media are perceived as either servants or racketeers of those in power."

Tomov further commented that that also reflects back on Bulgarian political life, saying that the low level of media in the country hinders the development of substantial political debate.

Tomov nevertheless expressed hopes on the ongoing development of internet media, which according to him are cheaper and as such much harder to manipulate.
