Driver in Bulgaria’s Hellish Car Crash Inebriated

The driver who caused the death of six young people in Bulgaria's Simeonovgrad was driving drunk, test found.

23-year-old Daniel Georgiev crashed his car into a group of young people late Saturday night, killing 6 and wounding 2. He himself is in hospital in critical condition. The tragedy shocked Bulgaria on Easter. The victims themselves were walking out of a home to go to church for the midnight Easter service.

Georgiev is known to have exceeded the speed limit but test results made know Sunday night showed that he had a blood alcohol content of 1.3 permilles (.130).

If he survives, Georgiev will face a charge of causing death by drink-driving facing from 5 to 15 years in jail.
