The Bulgarian Black Sea city of Varna is ready to accommodate 150 Japanese children and offer them recreation, tourist attraction tours, health care and protection, Kiril Yordanov, Mayor of the city, said.

The children's possible stay will be provided by the Bulgarian red cross and the local business. Varna is a large and important Bulgarian summer resort.

The proposal was announced by Yordanov before Japanese Ambassador to Bulgaria, Makoto Ono. Ono commented that the invitation is a great opportunity for the Japanese children and that he will inform the Embassy about it. However, the Ambassador said it was doubtful whether the project will materialize, as the Japanese children are going through difficult times right now.

At the beginning of April, hotel managers in another popular Bulgarian tourist destination, the city of Veliko Tarnovo, decided to offer some of their rooms to about 50 distressed Japanese citizens after the disasters which hit the Asian country.
