Official high-level representatives of France and the United Kingdom criticized Tuesday NATO for not putting sufficient efforts in curbing the forces of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

"NATO must fully play its role in Libya - for the time being the Alliance is not doing enough," stated French Minister of Foreign Affairs Alain Juppe.

British counterpart William Hague called on NATO to activize its operations against the Libyan regime and requested that Gaddafi step down.

Hague stated that Britain is fully committed to sending ever more military forces to Libya to protect the civilian population

Meanwhile, heavy fighting is still going on in and around the strategic eastern Libyan cities of Misrata and Ajdabiya.
