Bulgarian Firefighters Tame Wild Fire near Bansko

The mountain wild fire above the village of Gostun has been tamed and there is no danger of it spreading any further Monday morning.

The information was reported for Darik radio by the Mayor of Bansko, Alexander Kravarov, who says there are some hot spots burning, but the village residents and their housing are safe.

70 people spent the night on duty around the location of the fire. 350 have arrived in the morning with another 20 volunteers expected from Bansko. There are 9 fire trucks as well. The diminishing wind has helped the effort to tame the blaze.

According to the Mayor, the fire has not been set on purpose, as reported earlier, but is the result of recklessness of local residents.

The dimensions of the damage are still being estimated, however at least 3 000 decares of pine, spruce and fir have been wiped off.

Helicopters will not be used in the effort to extinguish the fire because the location is very high in the mountain, making it impossible to work with such equipment.
