Bulgaria's GERB Announces Electoral Commission Nominees

The ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party, distributed Thursday the list of their nominees for chair and members of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

CEC is to lead the upcoming presidential and local elections in the fall of 2011.

The nominee for CEC Chair is the magistrate from the Sofia Appellate Court, Krasimira Medarova, who has been a judge throughout her entire career – in the Sofia Regional, City and Appellate Courts.

The lawyer from the Black Sea city of Varna, Maya Andreeva, is nominated as Deputy CEC Chair.

Among the other 10 proposals for CEC members the most prominent names are the ones of Biser Troyanov, who has been a member of CEC for all elections between 2001 and 2009, of Anna Kolusheva, former member of CEC for Local Elections, and of Statistics and Mathematics Professor, Krasimir Kalinov.

Bulgaria's President, Georgi Parvanov, established April 12 as the date to begin consultations for appointing the country's CEC.
