The Prosecutor's Office has launched a probe of the income of the in-laws of Bulgaria's Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

The Bulgarian daily Dnevnik cites Thursday Sofia City Prosecutor, Nikolay Kokinov, saying that his office "must react" and had separated the information about the Minister's mother- and father-in-law from the one involving Tsvetanov. The probe against Tsvetanov has been dismissed, Kokinov informed, adding regarding the in-laws the prosecution is waiting for the National Revenue Agency, NRA, to finish their check, and send them the materials.

The NRA check must find out if there is enough evidence to begin investigating Stefanka and Vasil Georgievi for tax evasion. NRA have already announced, a month ago, there is a discrepancy between the retirees' income and expenses for the 2004 – 2009 period.

The probe against Tsvetanov has been dismissed by Deputy Sofia Prosecutor, Roman Vasilev, who will also be assigned with the one of the in-laws.

The tax check revealed that Tsvetanov has received a donation from Georgievi in the amount of EUR 48 366 and another one in the amount of USD 3 223.

NRA did not make public the exact sum of the discrepancy because the in-laws did not agree to have it released.
