A 40-year-old woman, who killed three youngsters in a heavy drink-driving accident in June 2007 in the Bulgarian town of Pernik, has been sentenced to twelve years in jails.

Zhivka Boyanova will be banned from driving for fourteen years.

The woman caused the hellish accident after loosing control over her car, veering into the opposite lane of a main road in the town of Pernik and crashing into a car.

Three of the passengers in the pressed vehicle - Alexandra Nenova, 19, Sofia Ruseva, 19 and Svetoslav Yonev, 23 - died on spot. One more person was injured.

The 16-year-old son of the drunk woman, who was traveling in the seat next to his mother, had his arm broken and suffered slight injuries throughout his body.

Tests showed Boyanova was driving with 2,88 per mille alcohol in her blood at the time of the crash.

"Even if the court had sentenced her to 100 years in jail, this would have been no consolation for me. Only those who have lost a child know how I feel, how big my pain is. Every single day I remember something from my son's life and it hurts badly," Petar Yonev, father of the dead Svetoslav, told journalists outside the court room.

Weeks after the accident occurred, the Zhivka Boyanova was released on BGN 5,000 bail as the court decided she was not likely to hide or impede the investigation process. Besides she was suffering from neurasthenia and had to look after her seriously ill mother.
