Gas de France May Invest EUR 100 M in Bulgarian Biomass

The French energy giant Gas de France Suez considers investing EUR 100 M in Bulgarian biomass plants, the country's Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov announced Monday.

Gas de France considers building 4 biomass energy plants in different Bulgarian cities. Apart from it, Spanish and Bulgarian companies have shown investment interests in the country's biomass energy.

The Balkan country is working on a new law on renewable energy sources, which includes incentives for biomass energy production. Until now, even though the Bulgarian forests have been growing by 40 000 hectares a year over the recent years, their biomass has been left to decay, Minister Naydenov pointed out.

433 megawatts of biomass plant energy by 2020 is currently Bulgaria's goal. The country aims for 16% total energy consumption coming to be from renewable energy sources by then.

Gas de France announced back in 2010 it was going to build the world's largest biomass eergy plant in Poland.
