Bulgarian Centrists Firm Behind Ex-EU Commissioner's President Bid

The Bulgarian National Movement for Stability and Prosperity, the centrist party of the country's former Tsar and PM Simeon Saxe-Coburg, will endorse former EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva's potential presidential bid in the fall of 2011.

However, representatives of the centrist party have pointed out that it still awaits Kuneva's final decision on the subject, Darik Radio has reported. They said they were pleaed with her ambition to gain a considerable civil support for her potential candidacy.

The former EU Commissioner has stated on several occasions that, should she decide to run for Presidency, her bid will be non-partisan. If Kuneva decides not to go with the centrist party, it may seek other choices, its current leader, Hristina Hristova said Monday.

Meanwhile, a Facebook group has vehemently risen against the prospect of Meglena Kuneva running for Bulgarian president, as the country's constitution requires that candidates are eligible only if they have lived in it over the last five years, a condition that Kuneva does not meet as she lived in Brussels.
