Bulgaria's Special Tribunal to Receive BGN 2 M for Salaries

Bulgaria's Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) will provide BGN 2 M for salaried to all 134 people that will work in the special tribunal for high-profile organized crime cases.

The special tribunal, which will start operating in August, will include 11 judges at each of the two instances, 22 prosecutors and 9 investigators in the two Prosecutor's Offices.

The administration of the two courts and Prosecutor's Offices will include 81 people at most – 25 in the first instance, 16 in the Court of Appeals, 30 in the first instance Prosecutor's Office, and 10 in the second instance.

The fixed costs of the special tribunal will be BGN 1.6 M from August until the end of the year. Furniture and equipment will cost about BGN 1.9 M.

The Supreme Judicial Council has also provided insurances for all employees and other benefits. They will amount to BGN 800,000.

The total costs of the special tribunal until the end of the year will be BGN 6.4 M.

Separately, the Bulgarian Justice Ministry will ensure the repair and reconstruction of the building on Sofia's Cherkovna St, the VSS member Ivan Kolev has stated.

"For now, we cannot calculate how much will the annual maintenance of the two court and Prosecutor's Offices will be because the number of employees might change," Kolev said.
