Within a month Bulgaria will start exporting chicken meat to Jordan, said Yordan Voynov, head of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency.

He is part of the official Bulgarian delegation to Jordan, led by Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov.

"The export will initially start with about 100 tons per month," Voynov said.

According to Naydenov, the import of fruits and vegetables from Jordan will continue, but their quality will have to be proven through laboratory tests.

His statement was with regards to the scandal with imported vegetables from Jordan, which contained more than 10 times above the allowed level of pesticides.

The Bulgarian delegation visited greenhouses with vegetables, strawberry and orange orchards in the valley of river Jordan.

Naydenov said he was overwhelmed by the scale of the vegetable production in the country.

"The whole valley is full with greenhouses and this is the main livelihood of the people," he said.

During the visit, it was announced that Bulgaria will provide laboratory equipment, which would help local producers to test their products before their export.

Bulgaria will also help Jordan with training for specialists who will be working in the laboratory.

On Monday, Naydenov is expected to visit hunting reserves of the Royal Hunting Club, where he will make a donation of 100 fallow deer to increase the diversity in the hunting areas.
