US Stealth Bombers Drop 40 Bombs on Libya Airfield

Three US B-2 stealth bombers and 19 planes have dropped 40 bombs on a major Libyan airfield in an attempt to destroy much of the Libyan Air Force.

At the same time US Air Force fighter jets conducted missions searching for Libyan ground forces to attack, CBS News reported on Sunday.

Dozens of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's military vehicles, including tanks, were destroyed Sunday.

The US chief military officer, Admiral Mike Mullen, announced that the US and allied forces have effectively established a no-fly zone over Libya. He added that Gaddafi's forces had not flown aircraft in the last few days.

Mullen said he has seen no reports of civilian casualties resulting from the air strikes. However, according to a Libyan government health official, the number of Libyans killed by Western air strikes has risen to 64 after some of the wounded died.

On Saturday, USA fired 112 sea-based Tomahawk missiles striking some 20 air defense targets in Libya, US Vice Admiral William Gortney announced in the Pentagon in Washington, DC, several hours after Operation Odyssey Dawn, initiated by the USA, the UK, France, Italy, and Canada, started.
