Bulgaria's consul in Tokyo, Chavdar Gradinarski, has left Japan without coordinating it with Bulgarian authorities, Vesela Cherneva, spokesperson for the Balkan country's Foreign Ministry, said.

This will have serious consequences for his diplomatic career, Cherneva declared.

Gradinarski left his compatriots in the country to cope with the situation by themselves, according to Svetoslav Georgiev, a Bulgarian man living, studying and working in the Sendei prefecture, who spoke for the bTV private channel earlier on Friday.

On Sunday, less than 48 hours after the devastating earthquake and tsunami, Gradinarski personally promised Georgiev to keep him updated with the constantly changing situation in the country. However, on Wednesday, upon arriving to the Bulgarian Embassy in Tokyo, Georgiev found out that the Bulgarian Consul had left with his family to the homeland.

A great deal of Bulgarians who want to leave Japan do not want to return to their homeland, but stay in countries nearby Japan until the nuclear situation gets under control, spokesperson Vesela Cherneva also revealed before the Bulgarian National Television.
